L'avenir appartient à ceux qui se lèvent tôt, dit-on. Au royaume du Soleil levant, la société Yoshizawa Lime Industry a pu, avec l'appui financier du gouvernement, développer un prototype de four à chaux original. Bien qu'ayant montré certaines limites liées aux chocs thermiques subis par la vis en carbure de silicium, le prototype a permis d'obtenir des résultats satisfaisants (voir p. 40). Tout aussi satisfaisants sont les résultats que l'on peut obtenir avec un soupçon d'acide borique –0,03 à 0,15 % en poids, guère plus !– dans une gâchée destinée à la fabrication de plaques de plâtre (voir p. 36). Si les projets bâtis sur du vent sont rarement couronnés de succès, des flux d'air et de combustible bien dirigés et homogénéisés dans un brûleur permettent aux cimentiers d'abaisser leurs facture énergétique (voir p. 32).
Cemex est un groupe d'envergure internationale qui s'est renforcé avec le rachat de Rinker. Vous en saurez plus sur son implantation dans l'Hexagone en allant page 25. Contrairement à ses concurrents, le groupe ne compte pas d'usine de ciment sur le territoire français. Un avantage ou un inconvénient ? Si l'on considère le prix de l'énergie, c'est peut-être une bénédiction. Les cimentiers s'efforcent autant que possible de diversifier leur approvisionnement en combustibles secondaires. Lafarge Ciments souhaite ainsi augmenter la part de RBA (résidus de broyage automobile) valorisés à l'usine de Val d'Azergues dotée d'une ligne de production en voie semi-sèche (voir p. 28).
Après deux années déjà favorables, les ventes de l’industrie du béton ont de nouveau enregistré une progression en 2006 (+ 2,8 % en volume). Les travaux publics ont bénéficié d’un environnement porteur grâce à la vitalité de l’investissement des collectivités locales. La ville de Rouen a ainsi investi 60 M€ dans un ouvrage prestigieux et s'est dotée du pont levant le plus haut d'Europe (voir p. 22). Pour accompagner le développement du marché, les entreprises cherchent à optimiser leurs usines. La société Placeo s'est ainsi équipée d'une installation clés en main pour fabriquer ses mortiers et sols industriels monolithiques en béton (voir p. 45).
The early bird catches the worm, so they say. In the Kingdom of the rising sun, the Yoshizawa Lime Industry Company could develop the prototype of an original lime kiln with the financial support of the government. Although there have been some limits related to the thermal shocks caused to the silicon carbide screw, the prototype has allowed to obtain satisfying results (see p. 40). The results that can be obtained with very little boric acid in the plaster mix for gypsumboard manufacturing –0.03 to 0.15 % in weight, no more!– are as satisfying as well (see p. 36). If projects built on sand are rarely successful, well targeted and homogenised air flows in a burner allow cement producers to lower their energy bill (see p. 32).
Cemex is an international group, which has grown stronger following the acquisition of Rinker. You’ll learn more about their presence in France by skipping to page 25. Contrary to their competitors, the group does not have cement plants on the French territory. Is it an advantage or a drawback? If one considers the price of energy, this might be considered as a blessing. Cement manufacturers are doing their utmost to diversify their supply of secondary fuels. For example, Lafarge Ciments wishes to raise the percentage of shredded automobile waste they valorize in the cement plant of Val d'Azergues with a semi-dry production line (see p. 28).
After two years of satisfying results, sales in the concrete industry have again been increasing in 2006 (+2.8% in volume). Activity in the public and engineering works has been supported by a favourable environment thanks to the strong investments made by local communities. The town of Rouen has invested some 60 m. in an ambitious building project and now has the highest vertical lift bridge in Europe (see p. 22). To accompany the market development, companies are trying to optimize their plants. The Placeo company is operating a turnkey production line to produce monolithic mortars and concrete industrial floors (see p. 45).
